About Us

The Yale FES Fishing Group (the Group) is an unofficial entity created to promote the graduate school of forestry fishing community at Yale University. The Group is an alternative to the official Yale Fishing Club (The Club), which is sponsored by Yale's Club Sports program. The Yale Fishing Club receives funding from the University and also has University owned gear including rods, reels, access to boat charters, and helps run a private fishing lake, Edward C. Migdalski Pond in East Lyme, CT. The Yale FES Fishing Group is a less formal community which is not funded, but also does not require annual dues.

The Group officially started in the fall of 2010 when a Sageboy posting was created to coordinate a small fishing adventure for FES students. The trip was a success and an emailing list was soon created to facilitate further adventures throughout the school year. In an effort to keep the momentum going this blog was built to further encourage spontaneous fishing trips, and help bring prospective fishermen/women into the sport with a welcoming environment, and plethora of local knowledge.
